The Scholarships You Need To Apply To

February 17, 2012 Category: College Scholarships and Grants

Your best bet for a better future career wise is by attending college.  Having a college degree increases your opportunities in many aspects.  Unfortunately, college is not an inexpensive endeavor.  But on the flip side, there is a lot of financial assistance out there.

Free Money for College

Scholarships are probably the best way for you to get that college degree.  Scholarships are money provided by various organizations to further your education, money that does not have to be paid back.  There are hundreds out there; it is just a matter of looking for the ones you qualify for.  Some have strict requirements, while others are very general in nature, almost everyone qualifies.

Best Buy Company –  One of these scholarships is by the Best Buy Company.  Best Buy announced that it will resume its scholarship program for 2012.  This scholarship rewards students who demonstrate excellence in academic achievement, community service and work experience.  Best Buy is donating 1,200 scholarships of $1,000 to students in grades 9-12 living in the U.S. and Puerto Rico.  The students applying must plan to be full-time undergraduates as soon as they finish high school.

Best Buy has a Children’s Foundation that focuses on helping teen students prepare for their future.  These scholarships are part of that focus, providing money for their college education.  The deadline for this particular scholarship is February 15th, 2012.  If you feel you qualify, applications can be found online at www.bestbuy-communityrelations.com.

Foreclosure.com – Another scholarship opportunity has recently been announced by Foreclosure.com.  For 2012 there are five scholarship rewards that are available to help with those college expenses.  To obtain this scholarship, students must enter a response to an essay topic.

Foreclosure.com has offered this scholarship in the past.  The subject for the essay this year is, “What creative solutions, programs and/or initiatives to stimulate the U.S. housing market, as well as to turn the foreclosures tide, must a presidential candidate outline/promise to earn you vote?”  Along with your response you are encouraged to include your own original stimulus plan or ideas.  Creativity and originality will probably play a big role in being considered for selection.

About 10,000 nationwide applications were submitted last year.  This year even more are expected.  Essays must be a minimum of 800 words and a maximum of 2,000.  You can submit your application to the scholarship program at their website found at www.foreclosure.com/scholarship.  The deadline for this scholarship opportunity is December 1, 2012.

As stated, there will be five scholarships awarded.  The winners will be selected by a panel of judges.  The grand prize winner will receive $5,000 and the other four will receive $1,000 each.  Also, each winning essay will be posted on Foreclosure.com for the entire year.

Never Too Early to Start Looking

These are but two scholarships out there.  There are so many opportunities to help you finance your college years.  It is never too early to start looking.  As you see by the Best Buy Co. scholarship, you can start qualifying for scholarships as early as your freshman year in high school.  Do your research and keep looking.  Good luck!
