Private Sector Scholarships: Microsoft, KFC, Tylenol, Ford

private scholarshipsA great source of financial aid for your college education is private scholarships.  These scholarships can be offered by public and private companies and are available throughout the year.  There are thousands of scholarships available with varying qualifying criteria, so there is bound to be quite a few waiting for your application.  The most difficult part to these types of scholarship is trying to find them.  Try these ideas to help you get started:

  • Check the website of any company or product you have used.
  • Check with your or your family’s employer about college scholarships.
  • If you or a family member belongs to a private organization, ask about college scholarships.

The following are a few corporations ready, willing and able to offer you a substantial scholarship.

Microsoft Tuition ScholarshipMicrosoft helps students who plan on studying computer science or related technical disciplines.  It is a scholarship which means it is essentially free money.  The amount awarded can range from $1,000 to $10,000 used toward your undergraduate degree.  To qualify for this scholarship you must be a full-time student in good academic standing studying computer science or a related field.  Another requisite is that you are a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident with a permanent resident card.  Deadline to apply is March 20th.

The KFC Colonel’s Scholars Program:  The KFC Colonel’s Scholarship targets students who are likely to be entrepreneurs.  The award is up to $20,000.  To qualify for this scholarship must attend an accredited college within the applicant’s own state.  You should be a low-income, U.S. citizen and a student in good academic standing.  Applicant can be in any field of study with a focus on entrepreneurship.  Deadline for this scholarship is February 10th.

The TYLENOL Brand ScholarshipThe TYLENOL Brand Scholarship Fund is designed to assist students who demonstrate leadership in the community and in school activities.  It was created because the makers of the TYLENOL Family of Products value academic excellence.  Its award ranges from $1,000 to $5,000.  In order to qualify for this scholarship you must be a full-time student in good academic standing and a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident.  This scholarship is awarded annually to 170 plus students.  You can be an undergraduate or graduate students or even a high school senior.  Applicants should be actively demonstrating leadership in the community and school activities and studying a healthcare related field.  The deadline for this scholarship is May 15th.

Ford Motor CompanyThe Ford Motor Company offers a range of scholarships designed to reward students who shine.  One such scholarship is the HSF/Ford Motor Company Scholarship Program.  This scholarship focuses on assisting graduating high school seniors of Hispanic heritage on obtaining a bachelor’s degree.  It is a one-time award of $2,500.  To qualify, the applicant must be a full-time student in good academic standing and also a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident.  Applicant should be of Hispanic heritage and attending a two- or four-year institution.  Deadline to apply is March 15th.

There are many more private companies with scholarships readily available.  Many companies offer scholarships with general qualification criteria.  Search carefully and you are sure to find many which you qualify for.  Good luck!
