Texas is a huge state and has no shortage of colleges and universities for students to apply to. In addition to a wide selection of schools to choose from, there are also plenty of scholarship opportunities and free money up for grabs for students that meet the requirements.
Below are just a handful of scholarships that target students who are residents of Texas.
Minnie L. Maffett Scholarship Trust
Amount: $1,000
Who is Eligible: Undergraduate students
Number of Awards Given: 49
Additional Information: Applicants for the Minnie L. Maffett Scholarship Trust must be pursuing a degree in the field of Nursing or Medicine. Additionally, students must attend a Texas college or university, as well as be a resident of Limestone County, Texas.
Fay T. Barnes Scholarship Trust
Amount: $1,250 (minimum) – $2,500 (maximum)
Who is Eligible: High school seniors
Number of Awards Given: 100
Additional Information: Students must be residents of Texas and live in either Travis County or Williamson County. Applicants must plan on attending any college or university in Texas.
Dallas-Fort Worth Association of Black Communications
Amount: $1,500
Who is Eligible: College freshmen
Number of Awards Given: 6
Additional Information: Applicants must be a resident of Texas who are working towards a degree in any of the following fields: Photojournalism, Radio/TV Broadcasting and Journalism.
Texas Big Game Awards Wildlife Conservation College Scholarship
Amount: $500
Who is Eligible: Incoming freshmen and currently enrolled college sophomores and juniors
Number of Awards Given: 30
Additional Information: Preference is given to students that are a part of the Texas Big Game Awards program (this is not mandatory for applicants, however). This scholarship is open to all fields of study.
Robert Schreck Memorial Fund
Amount: $1,000
Who is Eligible: Undergraduate students
Number of Awards Given: 4
Additional Information: Only student residents of El Paso County in Texas will be considered. Applicants must be pursuing a degree in any of the following fields of study: Veterinary Medicine, Chemistry, Architecture, Medicine and Religion/Theology.
B.M. Woltman Foundation
Amount: $500 (minimum) – $2,500 (maximum)
Who is Eligible: High school seniors/graduating high school seniors and current college freshmen thru junior level students
Number of Awards Given: 45
Additional Information: Applicants must live in Texas and plan on enrolling at any Texas college or university. Only students that are active Lutherans planning to study either Lutheran Ministry or Education will be considered.
Texas Paul Douglas Teacher Scholarship Program
Amount: $5,000
Who is Eligible: Undergraduate students
Number of Awards Given: N/A
Additional Information: Students applying for this scholarship opportunity must be a resident of Texas and a U.S. citizen. Those working towards a degree in Teaching and Education are preferred candidates. Other criteria includes being in the top 20% of one’s class, as well as maintaining a minimum 3.70 GPA.
Chinese Professional Club of Houston Scholarship
Amount: $600 (minimum) – $1,500 (maximum)
Who is Eligible: High school seniors/graduating high school seniors and current college freshmen thru junior level students
Number of Awards Given: 10
Additional Information: As the name suggests, students must be of Chinese American descent who are U.S. citizens or have permanent legal status. Applicants must also be residents of Houston, Texas specifically.
