To offset such costs, it is important to try and apply to as many college scholarship opportunities as possible. The following New York scholarships for just for residents of the state and are worth looking at in more detail.

New York State Higher Education Tuition Assistance Scholarship

Amount: $1,230.00

Who is Eligible: All undergraduates

Number of Awards Given: Varies

Carolyn W. Kohn Scholarship Fund

Amount: $2,000.00

Who is Eligible: Graduate students

Number of Awards Given: 30

Additional Info: Applicants must be a resident of New York and plan on attending school full-time at the graduate level to earn a degree in Occupational Therapy. Students are also required to maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA. This is a need-based scholarship. Non-traditional students who are residents of New York are also eligible to apply for this scholarship.

New York Paul Douglas Teacher Scholarship

Amount: $5,000 (maximum)

Who is Eligible: All undergraduate students.

Number of Awards Given: Varies

Additional Info: In addition to being residents of New York, preferred applicants should be pursuing a degree in the field of Education or Science Education in order to be considered.

North East Roofing Contractors Association Scholarship

Amount: $1,000

Who is Eligible: High school seniors/graduating high school seniors and undergraduates (freshman thru junior level)

Number of Awards Given: 4

Additional Info: As the name implies, this need-based scholarship is ideal for students planning a career in the Roofing industry. Relevant areas of study include Construction, Architecture and Engineering. The North East Roofing Contractors Association Scholarship is open to residents of New York as well as additional states: New Jersey, Maine, Connecticut, Vermont, Rhode Island, Massachusetts and New Hampshire.

Aspira of New York, Inc. Scholastic Assistance Program

Amount: $1,000.00

Who is Eligible: All undergraduate students

Number of Awards Given: Varies

Additional Info: Applicants must be a resident (US Citizen) of New York county and maintain a minimum 2.50 GPA.

The RMHC/HACER Scholarship Program

Amount: $2,500 (minimum) to $10,000 (maximum)

Who is Eligible: High school seniors.

Number of Awards Given: 64

Additional Info: Only Hispanic students that are citizens or permanent legal residents who show demonstrated financial need will be considered. Applicants must be enrolled full-time once accepted into college. This scholarship is also available to citizens/permanent legal residents of Connecticut and New Jersey.

Regents Awards for Children of Deceased/Disabled Veterans

Amount: $450

Who is Eligible: All students

Number of Awards Given: Varies

Additional Info: Students must be residents of New York and have at least one parent that is a disabled veteran or who has since passed away.

New York Higher Education Opportunity Program Grant

Amount: $2,000

Who is Eligible: All undergraduates

Number of Awards Given: 6,450

Additional Info: Student applicants must be residents of New York.
