7 Internships You Probably Haven’t Considered

Internship opportunities are plentiful but not all college students seek them out. However, there is no need to be intimidated by applying for this type of program. Completing an internship while in college is one of the most effective ways of boosting a resume and creating networking connections that could come in handy after graduation.

Texas Instruments Student Program

Who is Eligible: All undergraduate and graduate students.

Relative Areas of Study: Science and Engineering.

Additional Requirements & Info: A minimum GPA of 3.0 must be maintained. Students that have been accepted must commit to being assigned as an intern or co-op member and agree to working in the Texas Instruments Student Program for 5-8 months.

College InternshipsNPR Internship

Who is Eligible: Undergraduates, graduates and individuals that have graduated from college with a degree within 12 months of starting the internship.

Relative Areas of Study: Radio Broadcasting

Additional Requirements & Info: This internship opportunity is available to students in the spring, fall and winter semesters as well as the summer. Accepted interns must commit to working between 20-40 hours per week. The duration of the NPR internship is between 8-12 weeks.

Oracle Product Development Internship

Who is Eligible: All students with a proven/strong background in the computer science field.

Relative Areas of Study: Computer Science

Additional Requirements & Info: This is a summer internship program. Interns must be able to travel to the site in California (New England and Redwood Shores). Demonstrable knowledge of software development is required. Only 35-40 internship positions are offered each summer.

Undergraduate Internship – Field Museum

Who is Eligible: Undergraduate students and recent graduates.

Relative Areas of Study: Botany, Zoology, Anthropology and Geology

Additional Requirements & Info: This is a paid internship, offering a stipend of $964 per month for the duration of the 3-month summer program.

The Christophers, Inc. Editorial Internship

Who is Eligible: College sophomores, juniors and seniors.

Relative Areas of Study: Publishing, Communications, Journalism, English

Additional Requirements & Info: Interns must have a minimum 2.5 GPA. Internship opportunities are offered during the spring, summer and fall and take place in New York City. Applicants must have above average writing skills and will be working within the editorial department, dealing with the publication and distribution of of books and newspaper columns, among others. It is an unpaid, for credit internship. The company will not cover expenses related to travel and/or housing.

Amazon.com Software Development Engineering Internship

Who is Eligible: College juniors.

Relative Areas of Study: Mathematics, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering and Computer Engineering

Additional Requirements & Info: This internship program lasts for three months during the summer. Applicants must have demonstrable knowledge of any or all of the following areas: relational databases, coding, quality assurances and software design.

INROADS Internship Program

Who is Eligible: High school graduates that have been accepted to an accredited college/university and current college freshmen and sophomores.

Relative Areas of Study: Nursing, Technology, Sales, Marketing, Business, Pharmacy and Engineering

Additional Requirements & Info: A minimum GPA of 2.5 is required for high school applicants, along with a minimum SAT score of 1000 and a minimum ACT score of 20. College applicants must have a minimum GPA of 3.0.
